Meet the 9-Year-Old Founder of Yalla Matzah Pizza

Pizza during Passover? During Passover (April 5th-April 13th), many Jewish families will be forgoing all types of leavened products, which are not supposed to be consumed during this time. This can be difficult for carb-loving kids, which sparked a very clever idea from one Westchester kid.

Last year, during Passover, the Greenstein family (Allyson, Josh, and Hudson) were getting salads at Nick’s Pizza and Ice Cream (in Armonk) where 9-year-old Hudson Greenstein wished he could have real pizza.

His dad, Josh (who works for an Israeli Wine company) happened to have a box of Streit’s Matzo in his trunk. He brought it into the store and asked Anthony Brown, the owner of Nick’s Pizza and Ice Cream, if he could make Hudson a pizza with Matzah. After tasting how good it was, they developed an idea for a pop-up shop where the Greenstein family worked with Anthony over the course of the year to develop a plan and Yalla Matzah Pizza was born! Anthony was open to the idea since some customer base was lost during Passover.

In addition to a classic cheese matzah pie, you can add your choice of toppings such as veggies, meats, cheese, and more. They also have a gluten-free matzah.

While Hudson doesn’t necessarily want to be a chef, his Grandmother, who passed away before he was born, was a baker and loved to cook. Hudson was inspired by her recipes and he is very excited to share Yalla Matzah Pizza with the Westchester community — and beyond!

Yalla Matzah Pizza is now available at Nick’s Pizza and Ice Cream in Armonk, NY until April 15th. The family is also looking at branch out to other pizza shops in the area and a potion of the proceeds from Yalla Matzah Pizza will be donated to their local, Synagogue Congregation Bnai Yisrael.
