Spring has sprung! As the weather is getting warmer, it’s getting easier to enjoy the outdoors. In Westchester, we are lucky to have access to so many nature trails and preserves for spring walks. Here, you and your kids can see the budding of the trees as well as enjoy birding and hiking. Check out some upcoming spring experiences for the whole family below:

Woodland Park Forest Bathing

Enjoy an immersive forest walk at the beautiful Woodland Park. Located in Peekskill, this spring walk is a guided two-hour experience where you and your kids will connect with nature. This includes forest bathing, along with a mile-walk.

The Westchester Trails Association 

Looking for a group hiking experience? Check out the range of hikes through The Westchester Trails Association. This group hosts hikes all-year long, ranging from easy to strenuous hikes. For the spring, enjoy hikes on Saturday and Sunday at various state parks such as Harriman, Fahnestock, Storm King/Black Rock and more. The complete spring walks schedule can be found here.

Kitchawan Preserve

Enjoy an immersive day in nature at the 208-acre Kitchawan Preserve. Here, families can explore native woodland and open fields. Additionally, dogs are permitted but they must be leashed. 712 Kitchawan Rd. (Route 134), Ossining, NY 10562

Arbor Day Tree Identification Walk

Families are invited to learn more about local trees during this identification walk.  Led by conservation steward, Devyani Mishra, the walk includes a stroll through the Rockwood Hall. Here, families can learn about a variety of trees and how to identify them. Additionally, leashed dogs are welcome. $4 per person. Rockwood Hall, Phelps Way Pleasantville, NY 10570.

Thursday, April 25th
Thursdays on the Trails at Westchester Wilderness Walk / Zofnass Family Preserve

Families are invited to attend this spring walk at the Zofnass Family preserve. Led by WLT’s conservation technician, Jaelen, this includes the chance to enjoy trail maintenance and preserve upkeep. This clean-up/walk is designed for kids ages 12 and up. Additionally, minors must be accompanied by an adult.  RSVP to [email protected] in order to participate.

Roll & Stroll: An Accessible Adventure

Individuals of all abilities are invited to explore the preserve’s trails during this spring walk. This included a leveled terrain, which can accomodate all-terrain devices or wheelchairs with bicycle-type wheels/tires. This includes two routes at either one or 1.5 miles. The walk is free; however, parking is $6. Rockefeller State Park Preserve, 125 Phelps Way Pleasantville, NY 10570.

Saturday, May 4th from 7:00am-9:00am
Small Group Birding

Enjoy an early-morning birding experience at Croton Point Park. Led by the Saw Mill River Audubon, this experience includes a small group of adults and kids over age eight. Walkers should bring  binoculars. Additionally, they can borrow them by reaching out to [email protected]. This event is free and open to beginners. Sculpture Gardens Tour

Learn more about the PepsiCo Sculpture Gardens in this fun and immersive cultural walk. Led by Dr. Alakananda Mukerji, professor and chairperson of the Studio Art Department at Manhattanville College, the walk is free but only for adults. Stroller Tours

Parents will enjoy an opportunity to connect with other parents as well as walk in nature with their baby. This group meets every Tuesday and strictly for children in strollers. However, limited to eight caregivers with a stroller. 2610 Route 35, Katonah, N.Y. 10536
