Labor Day Weekend Events in and Around Westchester
Kids are heading back to school, the sun is setting earlier, and the end of August means Labor Day weekend is here. Time has really flown by, and we can’t believe it’s already going to be September, but we’re still hanging on to whatever bit of summer we have left. It’s time to close out the summer the right way, with some fun things to do with the entire family this holiday weekend.

Hudson Valley Hot Air Balloon Festival
There’s no better way to end the summer than to head to one of this summer’s most anticipated festivals. The Hudson Valley Hot Air Balloon Festival is fun for the entire family. Watch as hot-air balloons ascend to the sky, enjoy evening balloon illuminations and nightly fireworks displays. Additionally, families can enjoy live music, entertainment, food trucks, vendors, and so many family-friendly activities.
WGGCon 2024
It’s that time again for gamers in Westchester to unite and meet at WGGCon 2024. This year’s event will take place at Croton Point Park in the Senasqua Lodge from August 30th to September 1st, Monday morning. Families can RSVP on Facebook or Meetup. There will be activities around the clock, including a BBQ, movie screenings, and tournaments. Families and leashed dogs are welcome; an adult must accompany children under sixteen.
Hudson River Arts & Crafts Festival 2024
The Hudson River Arts & Crafts Festival is an unmissable outdoor extravaganza sponsored by the Croton Council on the Arts. Families are invited to join the festival at the picturesque riverfront Senasqua Park for an unforgettable experience. In 2023, the festival proudly hosted the works of 75 artists, showcasing a diverse range of fine art, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, photography, fiber art, and more. Join in on the fun this weekend and support the local arts.
Taylor’s Version: A Swiftie Dance Party at Playland Park
Experience the ultimate kids’ concerts at The Capitol Theatre and The Rock and Roll Playhouse on the main stage of Playland Park. Each concert showcases live covers of beloved artists like Queen, Talking Heads, Taylor Swift, Blink-182, and the Beatles. Playland is the perfect place for all ages and is a summer classic go-to in Westchester. Closing out the summer with Taylor Swift, fun rides, and funnel cake sounds like the perfect way to end summer.
Wakanda Celebration 2024 “One Love”
The Wakanda Celebration is an annual community event celebrating Africa’s rich heritage. It features live music performances, masquerade displays, a children’s village, an African fashion exhibition, delicious food, and various vendors offering unique items. The celebration is free to attend, and donations are welcome to support the program. It takes place on Saturday, August 31st, at Traphagen School in Mt. Vernon.
Boscobel Chamber Music Festival 2024
Boscobel House and Gardens presents the third annual Boscobel Chamber Music Festival, featuring five public performances with acclaimed chamber musicians from August 30th to September 8th. The festival will also include educational and community events, with artists engaging in various activities. The festival’s international artists lineup includes returning favorites and talented newcomers that families won’t want to miss.
6th Annual Sunflower Festival
The 6th Annual Sunflower Festival at Barton Orchards offers a variety of attractions, including sunflower picking, live music, local beverages, food vendors, and a petting zoo. It also features a fun park with various attractions for your kids to enjoy. Closing out the summer with sunflowers is absolutely on our bucket list, and we might just have to move this to the top of the list this weekend.
New York Renaissance Faire
Step back in time and embark on a royal journey with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I to a charming 16th-century English village. Root for your beloved knight at the Joust Tournament, meet Robin Hood and his joyful Merry Band and indulge in delectable delights and classic sweets. Families will be able to see extraordinary acrobats, enchanting fairies, daring pirates, and so much more.
Labor Day BBQ at Goosefeather
Goosefeather is hosting a special BBQ event at the Lawn Bar on Sunday, September 1st, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The BBQ will feature live music, lawn games, and a variety of food stations offering burgers, hot dogs, grilled wings, galbi skewers, and snow pea salad. A selection of beverages will also be available. No tickets are required, so bring the whole family and enjoy a day of great food and entertainment at Goosefeather.
Labor Day Celebration at Saint Paul’s Church
Families are invited to join in on Monday, September 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. to honor Labor Day with a captivating performance and sing-along featuring songs about workers, unions, and strikes. St. Paul’s site manager, David Osborn, will also provide historical commentary, which local historians will love.
Wolves of North America
Explore wolf families’ mythology, biology, and ecology and learn why it’s a special time for packs in North America. Whether the wolves reside in the Arctic tundra or in the woodlands of the southwest, wolf families are actively hunting for prey as their pups mature and become more adventurous. Families will have the opportunity to meet Ambassador Wolves Nikai and Silas and may also have the chance to see the WCC’s critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves.
DJ Days at The Brook at Tibbetts
Close out the summer season by the water and dive into fun at DJ Day this weekend. Enjoy music from a live DJ plus fun games and, of course, cool off by the pool at The Brook at Tibbets. Proof of Westchester County residency is required.

Mark your calendars for the 63rd Annual Mark Twain Library Book Fair on Saturday, August 31st, at The Redding Community Center in Redding, CT.
