Winter Birthday Parties in Westchester-Indoor Birthday Spots

My youngest was born in February and every year it’s a challenge to find a fun way to celebrate his birthday indoors. He dreams of soccer games, pool parties and beach romps, but instead we’ve gone sledding, hosted craft-making events and watched movies. But we’ve also learned that there are many incredible indoor spots in Westchester to celebrate a winter birthday. In fact, Westchester has some of the best indoor birthday spots in all of New York.

Arty Indoor Kid’s Parties in Westchester

Kids 4 and older can choose their own adventure in pottery-making at A Maze in Pottery in Briarcliff Manor. Small groups learn how to make and paint pottery, or kids can listen to a story while they work with sponges, Q-tips, brushes and fingerprints. There are also Zoom parties and a take-home kit which provides everything you need to create ceramics at home.

The Pottery Factory in Mount Kisco has several party options: Kids can make and paint their own pottery (coffee cups, bowls, plates and figurines). They can also learn how to paint a canvas, make candles or soap, or fuse glass into colorful collages. While the studio allows walk-ins for casual crafts, call ahead to book a party (which includes everything but the cake.)

Budding rock stars should enlist the Mike Risko Music School in Ossining to produce their party, which includes a 45-minute interactive musical activity that can be tailored to the ages and interests of the party members. For example, the party leader/music master can focus on vocals or make it more about the band. There is also a junior party with games and sing-a-longs for kids 5 and younger. The school will also handle snacks, cake and cleanup.

Chappaqua’s Scattered Books store hosts customizable literary parties for kids — at your home or at the store. For example, kids can make and frame collages with cut-outs, stickers and stencils; create comic strips, autobiographies, fairy tales or action stories. Guests can also decorate cupcakes or make glitter slime. Contact the store to brainstorm — they will take care of setup and cleanup as well.

Although you can’t plan a museum-sleepover (ala From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler), you can stage a private party at the Westchester Children’s Museum in Rye. The party includes a STEAM-based workshop in the MakerSpace, plus free play with the wind tube challenge, roller coaster design zone, ping pong and keva planks. All parties are held on Sundays when the museum is closed to the public—so the space is yours!

Active Indoor Kid’s Parties in Westchester

Gather friends in Ardsley at the House of Sports’ turf field or basketball courts for an hour of sports instruction and play with two highly trained, high-energy coaches. Then retire to the party room for pizza, juice boxes and cake. You can also add an inflatable slide or bouncy house for an extra fee.

Chill out on the ice rink at Elmsford’s Westchester Skating Academy. Birthday parties here include skate rentals, pizza in a private room, and for an extra fee: ice skating lessons!

Little ones can let loose in the 10,000 square foot The Play Place in Elmsford, where the pros run the show. Let the kids burn off energy on the adventure playground, tennis court, basketball court, and sports field, then relax and celebrate in a private party room.

Get in on some high-flying fun at the Ultimate Trampoline Park®, aka Rockin’ Jump (located in Mt Kisco and Yonkers). Parents can zone out on the massage chairs while a spirited host leads the kids through open jump arenas, dodgeball and slam dunk zones. Then, as seems to be the routine, kids can catch their breath in a party room with pizza and cake.

The (other) inflatable party house, Elmsford’s BounceU, offers larger-than-life bounce houses filled with inflatables, slides and games. Leave it to the BounceU pros to customize the party (in terms of games, food and favors) for the guest of honor — who even gets her own birthday throne.

My Gym (with locations in Yorktown Heights, Dobbs Ferry and Mamaroneck) celebrates your child’s birthday with age-appropriate games, relays, rides, songs, puppets and more. The staff handles every detail including paper goods, party favors and food – so parents can relax and focus on the feel-good moments of their kid’s special day.

In other words, Westchester parents of kids born in winter: Don’t worry about the weather! Winter birthday parties can be a blast at Westchester’s best indoor party spots.
