Music Conservatory Raises Funds for Japan Relief

The Music Conservatory of Westchester raised $6,000 from ticket sales and donations for its recent benefit jazz concert supporting the relief efforts in Japan. All monies are being sent to the American Red Cross – Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Victims. The special concert was organized by acclaimed faculty pianist and Osaka native Hiroshi Yamazaki, who told a near sold-out audience at the Conservatory he felt compelled to “do something” following the tragic events in his native Japan. Within two short weeks, Yamazaki  produced the event by recruiting friends and celebrated musicians Bill Crow (bass), Sean Smith (bass), Jan Leder (flute), Takeshi Ogura (guitar), Andrew Beals (alto sax), Tony Jefferson (drums), Bob Arthurs (trumpet), Jeff Siegel (drums), Ted Rosenthal (piano), Nadav Snir Zelniker (drums), Noriko Ueda (bass) and John Cutrone (drums). The Music Conservatory of Westchester is located at 216 Central Ave., White Plains. 761-3900. www.musicconservatory.org
