Where to Meet New Parents in Westchester

Welcome to Westchester! Whether you have lived in Westchester your whole life or you’re new to the area, one thing is certain: meeting new parents is not easy!  However, there are many parent and support groups in the area that will make this process just a little easier. From classes to parenting groups, check out some ways to meet new parents in Westchester.

Play Spaces/Classes

Tig & Peach (Pelham and Rye)

A beautifully designed gathering space for caregivers, parents, and kids, Tig & Peach offers a way to connect via interactive and fun classes. This includes 15+ enrichment classes for children 0 to 6-years-old such as music and movement, art & multilingual music, movement, sensory skills, and more. They offer drop-in rates at $35 per child, $20 for siblings and kids under 9 months old are free. There is also a monthly membership for regular visitors. Prana Prenatal Yoga and Education (Port Chester)

A facility designed for expecting and new parents, Prana Prenatal Yoga and Education is a fun and supportive place to connect with new moms. They offer a Mama and Baby Yoga, Mama and Baby Pilates classes, and Mama and Baby Fitness workshops. New moms will enjoy exercising while also meeting other Westchester moms.

They also offer a new mama support group, which meets on Wednesdays at 11:30am. The group provides a way for moms who recently gave birth to ask questions and listen in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. The group costs $15.00 for a single session, $52.00 for four sessions.

For moms of toddlers, they offer a virtual mindful parenting your toddler group, which meets every other Monday at 10:30am for four weeks. Here, parents can connect about everyday challenges with toddlers and how to destress using humor and mindful parenting tactics. The class is $60.00 for all four sessions. Fit4Mom Westchester (Vahalla at Kenisco Dam Plaza and White Plains at The Westchester Mall)

Get fit with other new moms by taking a Fit4Mom class. They offer weekly classes indoor, outdoor, and virtual classes such as Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre. Stroller Strides is a full-body conditioning class with strength and cardio and Stroller Barre offers a blend of ballet, Pilates, barre, yoga and stroller-based exercises designed to help moms build strength and muscle tone and improve posture.

Not only offering a way to get fit, you’ll be able to bring your baby as you get your body moving and meet other moms in the same boat as you. Classes are $84 a month, plus a one time $75 registration fee. They also offer a 10 class pass for $169 and a single class pass for $22.

Music Together Sounds Good Westchester (Various locations in Westchester)

Music is the great connector for everyone. Take a Sounds Good Westchester class as a way for your baby or toddler to move and groove as you connect and meet new parents. Classes are offered throughout the County in Harrison, Rye, Port Chester, New Rochelle, and White Plains. Mixed aged classes (0-4 years old) and babies classes (0-seven months old) include lullabies, jam sessions, and child-friendly instruments. They offer a month-to-month membership at $116. Each additional sibling (ages six months to four years old) is $69 a month and free for siblings under six months and over for years old. Free trial classes and scholarships are also available.

Tykes Tuesday (Palisades Center)

For parents of older kids, try a free Tykes Tuesday class at the Palisades Center. Held every Tuesday in the summer, the class is designed for kids under age 12. This includes classes at Jellio World (August 9th); Sky Tykes Adventure Course (August 16th); Hudson Valley Humane Society (July 26th); Barnes and Noble (August 2nd); Great American Cookie (August 23rd) and Climb Zone (August 30th). Special Needs Enrichment Programs at the JCC Mid-Westchester (Scarsdale)

The JCC Mid-Westchester offers many programs, meet-ups, and classes for both parents and kids. This focuses on community and connection for kids with ADHD, speech/language delays, learning disabilities, Asperger’s Syndrome, ASD, and other developmental disabilities. Current programming includes a Sunday/Funday socialization program for ages 3-21, SibConnection for siblings of kids with special needs, and Tai Chi for children and their parents and/or siblings. PFLAG Westchester (Virtual)

This group is for parents, families, and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons in Westchester. They provide community, support, celebrate diversity, and connection for individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

The Arc Family Support Groups (Hawthorne and Mount Kisco)

The Arc offers several parenting support groups for parents who have children with special needs. This includes the Parent Assistance Committee on Down Syndrome (PACDS), an autism support group, and various parenting workshops throughout the year. Musical Munchkins (White Plains)

Musical Munchkins offers kids (ages one to four) and their parents/caregivers a fun way to connect, sing, movie, and play with instruments. Chloe’s Kids Westchester Tots Playgroup

This popular meet-up group shares fun events throughout Westchester for parents with babies, toddlers and preschoolers to connect. This includes a mix of local online and virtual events.

MOPS (Bedford Hills)

This faith-based organization connects new moms while also discussing topics related to motherhood and children. The group meets the first Thursday of every month from September to June from 9:30 am-11:45 am. The third Thursday of the month includes bible study and an event planning meeting. Childcare is provided through their MOPPETS program for babies to kids who are kindergarten age. Membership fee is $95 and scholarships are available. Library Classes

There are no shortage of baby and me offerings at local libraries. Some options include Musical Mother Goose at the Bedford Free Library; storytime at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library; All Together Storytime and Parking Lot Storytime at the Chappaqua Library; storytime at the White Plains Library; Here We Are Together Storytime, a virtual bilingual storytime, music and movement at the Mount Kisco Public Library; and sensory playtime and let’s groove, a movement and music class at the North Castle Public Library, to name just a few options.

Swim Classes

Meet other parents by taking a swim class.

Club Fit (Briarcliff Manor)

Club Fit offers parent/child swim lessons for kids ages six months old to 2.5 years old. Parents and toddlers take this group class together, eventually transitioning to independent lessons. Classes are $28 for members and $36.70 for non-members. 584 North State Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510.

Swim Labs (Elmsford)

Swim Labs offers a ParentTot and Toddler transition classes. In the ParentTot class, parents and kids work together to develop skills crucial for learning to swim and promote safety in the water. This class is offered for babies ages six months old to three years old.  Parents will be in the water with their kids where you can connect with other parents as you are helping your child learn important water skills. Safe Splash Swim School (Yonkers)

Held at Ridge Hill, Safe Splash Swim School offers a ParentTot class. In the class parents and kids work together to develop skills for swimming and water safety. 77 Cole Street #1290A, Yonkers, NY 10710.

La Leche League of Central Westchester (White Plains)

For breastfeeding support, try a La Leche league class. In Westchester, you can find support in La Leche League of Yonkers and resources from their central office in White Plains.  This includes monthly meetings, books in support of breastfeeding, childbirth, parenting, and nutrition, phone calls from accredited leaders, and more. 233 Davis Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605. 914-777-1539.

Rivertowns Moms (Hastings)

This organization discusses topics tailored to moms of newborns to age one . The main focus is for moms in the community to connect form friendships with other moms who have children with similar ages. This is a social group for all new mamas, including second-timers and formula-feeding mamas.  The group is held on Wednesdays from 11:00am-12:30pm. No RSVP or registration necessary. Rye Newcomers (Rye)

This group offers a way for new moms (and anyone new to the area) a way to connect and meet new people. The group welcomes newcomers who live in Rye, Rye Brook, Rye Neck, Purchase, Port Chester, and Harrison. Members enjoy local activities. This includes playgroups; family and couple events; book clubs; a kid-friendly morning coffee; and happy hour. Interested members should fill out an application.
