Kids’ Speakeasy Sessions at the Katonah Reading Room

The last week of summer before school starts is tricky. Most summer camps are done and many families might still be around, looking for things to do with their kids. From August 21st-August 25th, Katonah Reading Room is hosting “Kids’ Speakeasy Sessions” with affordable and free mini classes and workshops. Read on to check out the run down of some cool things for your kids to do before they head back to school.

August 21st from 10:00am-4:00pm

Kids and adults  can participate in the this World Wildlife Fundraiser with crafts and activities. Led by Miss Charlotte, the event is raising money for World Wildlife Fund. Crafts include the painting of wooden animals and greeting cards with the technique of botanical mono printing using plants and grasses. $15 per craft donation suggested.

Enjoy a reading and signing of book, DJ The Scratchy Cat with author Jacqueline Kirby. Space is limited and families should register here.

August 24 from 10:00am-11:30pm

Join local children’s book authors Alise Curran, Marsha Campbell and Gabriella Gizzo for a reading of their books. Families can reserve a spot by purchasing a $5 gift card good for the purchase of a book or anything in the store. Space is limited and families should register here.

August 25th from 10:00am-11:30am

Enjoy a book signing and reading of the the bilingual storybook, Maria Becomes a Butterfly by author Maria Chinchilla. Ideal for ages 6 -9 years old. Families can reserve a spot by purchasing a $5 gift card good for the purchase of a book or anything in the store. Space is limited and families should register here.

August 25th from 2:00pm-3:30pm 

Tweens and teens (ages 8-12) can learn how to create a graphic novel or a flip book in the Graphic Novel Workshop.  The workshop is $25 per person comes with a comic book or flip book, black pen, and pencils. Kids will also learn how to plot out a book and create scenes. Families can register here.

August 28th from 2:30pm-3:30pm

Enjoy a fun drop-in flower party with Estelle. Kids of all ages can create a stained glass piece using fresh petals and your imagination! Reserve your space with the purchase of a $10 gift card, which is good for use on that day or in the future.. Families can register here.

August 29th from 10:00am- 11:30am

Join children’s book author Adrienne Falzon for a reading of Olivia and the Sea Turtles. Families can register here.

August 30th from 10:00am – 11:30am

Kids can express themselves and make a new picture (or anything they want!) during the Watercolor Paint Break. The workshop is $20 per child, which includes all materials. Families can register here.

August 31st from 10:00am-11:30am

Join Ashlyn Longobardi to learn how to revitalize old book pages into book. This program is for ages eight to adult. 10-11:30am. The program is $20 per person. Families can register here.

August 31st from 2:30pm-4:00pm

Kids can learn how to make a fun key ring felt craft with artist Tempestt Jiwa. Designed for ages 6 and up, the program costs $20 per person. Register here.
