Westchester Family: How did the idea for Ice Cream Social come about?

Ice Cream Social: We grew up in White Plains and after living elsewhere decided to return to our hometown to raise our families. We both have two young children and are always looking for something to do- what better than visit an ice cream shop? Only problem? White Plains didn’t have a traditional, family oriented, scoop shop. We set out to create a fun and friendly environment for groups to gather.

Westchester Family: Were you always planning on opening it in White Plains?

Ice Cream Social: Yes! We love White Plains and have multi-generational roots in the city. Our goal is to create the kind of community we want to live in.

Westchester Family: Tell us more about the ice cream we can find at Ice Cream Social.

Ice Cream Social: We proudly sell Jane’s Ice Cream. Located in the Hudson Valley, Jane’s uses natural ingredients with milk from New York cows. We stock a wide variety of vegan flavors using an oat milk base that is a must try. Customers can’t believe how delicious and creamy our vegan flavors are.

Westchester Family: What are some of your favorite ice cream flavors?

Ice Cream Social: Lovers of our vanilla go wild over the Lavender ice cream. With a strong lavender taste, it’s like vanilla, but with a kick. Kids always gravitate towards the Blue Zoo: a vanilla base that’s tinted with spirulina (an algae with strong antioxidant properties) to give it a blue color, animal crackers, and chocolate chips. We love the Salted Caramel Pretzel: a vanilla base with salty pretzels and caramel! Vegan customers love the Coffee Cookie: a coffee base with chunks of vegan sandwich cookies.

Westchester Family: We love your ice cream merchandise! Was that always part of the business plan?

Ice Cream Social: Absolutely! We see merch as walking billboards. We love when our customers tag us in pictures when they are on vacation. Our merch is designed to make people happy as we take great care to make sure the styles are made with comfortable material, flattering cuts and in fun colors. Besides, who doesn’t want to wear an ice cream cone on their shirt?!

Westchester Family: What else do you offer?

Ice Cream Social: Our menu has expanded since opening to include soda floats. Our Shirley Temple float is a must try! We also partner with Jane Street Sweets to create custom ice cream sandwiches that can be grabbed by our customers for easy service.

Our customers love to purchase ice cream cakes that can be customized with any flavor and decorated according to their liking. Year round we offer a full menu of coffee items using coffee from Coffee Labs in Tarrytown. Lattes and cappuccinos can be enjoyed hot or cold and our customers love to add a shot of espresso to a scoop of ice cream for a delicious affogato.

Westchester Family: What’s next for Ice Cream Social?

Ice Cream Social: In keeping with the creation of our ideal community, we will be opening a coffee shop called Coffee Social! Our ice cream business will grow it’s reach with a cart as well.
