Meet Heather Brooker of the Brooker Family POPcast

Podcasts have exploded over the past few years. The category is ever-expanding where you can find a wide-range of engaging and fun podcast options for families and kids of all ages. We recently learned about a fun family entertainment podcast that both kids and parents will love listening and engaging in with the Brooker Family POPcast.

Created by Heather Brooker, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and influencer; Chris Brooker, a former radio DJ and music director; and their 10-year-old daughter and actress, Channing Brooker, where they talk about entertainment, video games, music, pop culture, and more. They recently launched Season 2 featuring fun guest interviews with your favorite actors, comedians and singers mixed with their relatable, unfiltered parenting style, and humor.

To learn more, we spoke with Heather Brooker who shared more about the podcast as well as some of her go-to podcasts to enjoy this summer – and beyond. Check out more below:

Westchester Family: How did the idea for the podcast come about?

Heather Brooker: Like many families we spend a lot of time around the TV and going to movies. Some of our most genuine conversations happen right after we’ve seen a movie we loved (or hated!). We thought it would be fun to share these conversations with other families who can relate to our silly, unfiltered sense of humor so we started Brooker Family POPcast !

Westchester Family: Did you always want to create a podcast with your family?

Heather Brooker: I have a separate podcast called Motherhood in Hollywood that’s all about parenting in the entertainment industry. It was such a joy for me to bring those stories to my community but I never imagined creating a podcast with my family. Now it’s the thing I’m most proud of!

Westchester Family: What do you hope people will get out of the podcast?

Heather Brooker: I hope people will find our conversations relatable and funny. I also hope it opens up an opportunity for them to talk about pop culture and entertainment in a fun way with their family. And of course we want to give great recommendations on what to watch!

Westchester Family: How do you figure out the topics to cover on the Brooker Family POPcast

Heather Brooker: We sit down as a family and go over our rundown for the show. I have a background in broadcast news reporting so having a show rundown is essential for me. We all weigh in on what topics we want to cover and shows we want to recommend. I find this is helpful for my daughter as well because she likes to be prepared.

Westchester Family: What are some of your go-to podcasts for summer?

Heather Brooker: I love Reality Life with Kate Casey. She is so passionate about her show and creating quality content and you can hear it in every episode. I’m a sucker for comedy so I also love Never Not Funny with Jimmy Pardo. He and his crew have such great chemistry and the ability to make anyone laugh. You can check out my complete list here.

Westchester Family:  What age do you think kids can start listening to podcasts?

Heather Brooker:  There are great storytelling podcasts that are geared towards little kids like Story Nory, Greeking Out, and Story Pirates that are great for younger kids 5 and up. And our show is perfect for the tween set and older. There are so many wonderful podcasts now that cater to kids!

Westchester Family: Anything else to add?

Heather Brooker: There is nothing else like BFP available for families of all ages to enjoy together! You can listen to our show in the car or you can watch it on your Apple TV – just search Brooker Family POPcast.
