Gluten Free Recipes & Tips

You or your child has been diagnosed with celiac disease, and needs to go gluten-free. What next?

It’s not as simple as going to the grocery store and combing the aisles for special foods to add to your pantry. It’s an adjustment that you and your family may need to make as a unit, over time. No one wants to cook two different meals, or risk cross-contamination.

Christi Skow speaks from experience. She herself has celiac disease and had to learn to give up wheat-based products. As the founder of Canyon Bakehouse, a gluten-free artisan bakery in Loveland, Colorado, Skow shares tips for transitioning your entire family to the gluten-free lifestyle.

Gluten Free Tips

• Have plenty of naturally gluten-free foods like fruits, vegetables, unprocessed meats, rice and beans on hand.

• Remember to include a variety of textures in the diet: kids can still munch on crunchy rice cakes and carrot sticks at snack time.

• Give yourself and your taste buds time to adjust to the change. Don’t despair if you don’t love gluten-free products at first. In the end, the high quality ones can become very satisfying.
