Caramoor Announces Robust Summer Season

Can you believe summer is around the corner?

We can’t wait for the longer days and fun in the sun in Westchester at some of our favorite attractions like Caramoor. A special Westchester cultural arts destination, Caramoor is located on an 80-plus-acre estate. Here, you and your family can will view Italianate architecture and gardens, the historic Rosen House, as well as their open-air venue and indoor spaces.

This summer (June 9 – August 16), families can enjoy a range of world-renowned musicians and performances while soaking in its natural beauty. It’s also an incredible location to picnic, explore its grounds, and enjoy afternoon tea. Read on to check out more about its robust 2024 summer season.

Highlights of the Summer Season 2024 at Caramoor

Sunday, June 9th at 12:00pm
Soundscapes

Enjoy the official opening of Sonic Innovations and the Caramoor grounds. This free event includes a performance by composer Majel Connery and cellist Felix Fan. Incredibly, this includes an electronic song cycle told from the point of view of the land.

Additionally, families can meet and ask questions from sound artists Stephan Moore, Senem Pirler, Liz Phillips, Trimpin, Walter Kitundu, Taylor Deupree, Annea Lockwood, Bob Bielecki and Ranjit Bhatnagar. Here, they will be interacting with audience members. Finally, participants can try the theremin with the New York Theremin Society.

Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month with The LOFT LBGTQ+ Community Center

Families are invited to celebrates Pride, in collaboration with The LOFT LGBTQ+ Community Center. Here, you can enjoy special performance by Juilliard-trained tenor and renowned drag artist Jasmine Rice LaBeija. Finally, the event also includes a rainbow-lit after-party in the Spanish Courtyard.

Celebrating Juneteenth

Enjoy Juneteenth with this free family event. Featuring Charles Turner and Uptown Swing, the concert includes music from the 1920s to the present. Known as the country’s second Independence Day, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and honors their families, heritage, and resilience. Additionally, enjoy family-friendly activities.

10-year collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, featuring Wynton Marsalis

The kick-off event of the season includes virtuoso jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

American Roots Music Festival Presented in Collaboration with City Winery

Enjoy a celebration of the best in Americana, blues, folk and bluegrass. Presented in collaboration with City Winery, the festival includes singer-songwriter Madison Cunningham.

Thursday, July 4th at 8pm
Pops, Patriots, and Fireworks

To celebrate Independence Day, conductor and music director Curt Ebersole and the Westchester Symphonic Winds return for the Pops, Patriots and Fireworks concert. Incredibly, this includes guests vocalists – soprano Shelén Hughes and tenor César Andrés Parreño. Additionally, the concert includes music from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, as well as Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. Finally, the evening ends with a fireworks display.

Concert for Little Ones: Mariel Bildsten Trio

Caramoor offers a range of shows and performances for kids ages ages 2–6 (and their caregivers). Incredibly, these concerts feature world-class artists. First up, enjoy passionate educator and trombonist Mariel Bildsten and her trio.

Enjoy a performance from this new quartet collective. Incredibly, this features works of Wiancko, Terry Riley, and Chick Corea.

Families are invited to enjoy a concert featuring Lucy Kalantari. This includes jazz-age inspired music in English and Spanish.

Jump in the Line: The Music and Life of Harry Belafonte

Presented in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, enjoy vocalist René Marie and her touring and recording group Experiment in Truth. Plus, enjoy calypso tunes made famous by Harry Belafonte. Finally, the event ends with discussion about his music and how it effected social change.

THE JUMP UP!

THE JUMP UP! is a fun and interactive event where the audience participates. Additionally, this free outdoor performance includes a pre-concert conversation with Douglas J. Cuomo at 3:00pm.

Jazz Festival

Headlined by young composer, bandleader and pianist Matthew Whitaker, the Jazz Festival is a fun weekend event for the whole family.

Mark Morris Dance Group

The evening includes four pieces with choreography by the Mark Morris Dance Group. This includes Italian Concerto with music by J.S. Bach. Additionally, enjoy Candleflowerdance with music by Igor Stravinsky. Finally, enjoy Excursions with music by Samuel Barber and Words with music by Felix Mendelssohn.

Concert for Little Ones: Gabriel Globus-Hoenich

Join percussionist and educator Gabriel Globus-Hoenich. Incredibly, he will invite audience members to join in by playing instruments and dancing.

Mokoomba

Enjoy a six-piece band from Zimbabwe. This includes Afrofusion sound blending traditional rhythms and contemporary Zamrock.
