While we are all adapting to the new normal, one thing is for sure: summer 2020 is almost here and we are going to do our best to make the most of what outdoor activities are available and currently open. Last weekend, this included the opening of the Westchester beaches! While this looked very different from the past (limited capacity, social distancing, etc), there are still ways to safely enjoy the glorious beaches and soak in the sun with our kids. Below, we’ve listed what’s open and some tips on the current protocol to help you to prepare for a safe and fun summer outing.

What’s Open?

Playland and Croton Point Park are currently open for the season and at reduced capacity. Glen Island Beach is not open and is being used as a COVID-19 testing facility.

What do you need to enter?

Only Westchester residents are permitted to enter the beach. You will have to present your Westchester County Park Pass or driver’s license with a Westchester address.

  • The beaches are only open on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Everyone must have a mask and social distancing protocols must be followed. Masks are not required in the water.
  • There will be no food stands open.
  • The bathrooms will be open; however, showers and lockers are closed.
  • The beaches are open from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., there is no admittance after 6 p.m.
  • The beaches cost $4 per adult, $3 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for children age 5 and under. More about the fees can be found here: https://parks.westchestergov.com/pool-and-beach-fees
  • Parking costs $5 with a park pass and $10 without.

Other tips:

Bring a wide blanket  (or several blankets) to encourage distance between beach goers.

Have your mask ready if you are not able to practice social distancing, especially when walking on the boardwalk at Playland.

Wash your hands in the bathrooms.

In addition to sunscreen, bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
