Falling for Foilage

Any trip up (or down) the Taconic, Saw Mill or Bronx River Parkway is sure to offer great leaf-peeping opportunities. Or head towards the Bear Mountain Bridge on Rte. 202 for a panoramic view of trees surrounding the river. Other prime foliage spots are:

Marshlands Conservancy

A 147-acre wildlife sanctuary combining, forest, meadow, salt marsh and shore for a variety of views. 9am-5pm, Wednesday-Saturday. $8 parking. Rte. 1, Rye. 835-4466. westchestergov.com.

Kingsland Point Park

An 18-acre park on the eastern shore of the Hudson River with spectacular overlook areas and views of the Tarrytown Lighthouse. 8am-dusk daily. $10 parking. Palmer Ave., Sleepy Hollow. 366-5109. westchestergov.com.

New York Botanical Garden

With over 30,000 mature trees on its 250-acre landscape, The Botanical Garden is the perfect site for seeing the changing colors of nature. 10am-6pm, Tuesday-Sunday. $20 adults, $8 children. 2900 Southern Blvd., Bronx. 718-817-8700. nybg.org.

Stamford Museum and Nature Center

More than 80 acres of nature trails make this lovely outdoor preserve an excellent spot to watch the leaves change color this month. 9am-5pm daily. $10 adults, $5 children. 39 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, Conn. 203-3221646. stamfordmuseum.org.

Ward Pound Ridge Reservation
