The Best Museums for Kids

NEWEST ADDITION

Last month marked the opening of the first phase of Westchester Children’s Museum with 4,000 square feet of interactive, handson exhibits. While construction continues, kids can enjoy a variety of hands-on exhibits including building a roller coaster and working with 15,000 KEVA Planks! And here’s a bonus, there is a pay-as-you-wish admission policy through the summer. Additional exhibits to be added include Toddler Beach, Luckey Climber and Water features.

ALL HANDS-ON

No parent will ever have to say, “don’t touch,” because this museum encourages hands-on exploration for children ages 10 and under. You’ll find more than 100 hands-on activities plus family programs and special events. For the youngest there’s Tot Town, a dedicated soft play space for infants and toddlers. For children with special needs there’s Accessibility Day with free admission from 9 to 11 a.m. on select Saturdays. Contact the Museum for details.

BABY AND ME

This non-collecting museum features 10 to 12 new exhibitions annually. There are also concerts, lectures and art programs for all ages. The Learning Center allows children to participate in hands-on art projects, and weekend family art programs are a great way to introduce your children to art. With two small galleries, the size of this museum is perfect for youngsters. The Stroller Tours program invites adults to take a tour of the museum with babies in strollers.
