Just Ask about Guns

The new school year often means new friends for youngsters, and that can mean playdates at new homes.

Before you allow your child to visit a friend’s house consider the following.

According to the Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Campaign, a collaboration between the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and the American Academy of Pediatrics, 80 percent of unintentional firearm deaths of kids under age 15 occur in a home and one in three homes with children have guns, many left unlocked or loaded. Every year thousands of kids are killed or injured as a result.

You can help put an end to this by joining ASK spokesperson Julianna Margulies in promoting the simple idea that parents and caregivers should ask if there are unlocked guns in the homes where their children visit. It’s a simple but important question. askingsaveskids.org.
