An Old-Fashioned Christmas

If you are looking to bring a little authenticity into your Christmas holiday this year try taking the family to a local tree farm and personally cut down your Christmas tree. Some families enjoy the process so much it becomes a yearly tradition.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY

Stuart’s Farm

Stuart’s is a family-operated farm that has been in business since 1828. Cut down your tree this year from Nov. 28 through Dec. 23, Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The farm provides handsaws and baling.

And the Bakery is open with hot cider, coffee, fruit pies, doughnuts and other goodies. Cut your own trees cost $80 for any size.

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm

You’ll find several acres of Choose-n-Cut Christmas Trees at this fruit and fir farm that offers a free cup of cider with every tree purchase. Cut your own tree starts Saturday, Nov. 29 and remains open while tree supply lasts, about mid-December. The farm is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. All three markets, the Bakery, the Apple Farm Market and The County Market are open, selling seasonal décor, food and gift items. Cut your own trees cost $60- $70 for a 5 foot tree up to $110-$120 for a 12 foot tree. Handsaws are provided.

PUTNAM COUNTY

Hardwick Tree Farm 

Hunt for your special tree at this local tree farm and then cut it down or have one of the staff lend a hand and help you cut it down. The tree farm opens this year on Nov. 29 and continues through Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. until dusk – on weekends only. Saws and baling provided. Free hot cider and cookies will rejuvenate you after your hard work. Cut your own trees are priced by the foot. Call for more information.
