This year, the first day of Chanukah coincides with Thanksgiving Day -- the first such occurrence since President Abraham Lincoln established Thanksgiving in 1863, and the only time these two holidays will overlap until the year 79,811.

To mark this unprecedented event, the JCC of Mid-Westchester999 Wilmot Road,Scarsdale will host a community-wide Chanukah celebration on the last night of the 8-day holiday, Wednesday, December 4, beginning at 5p.m.  The festivities will include the outdoor lighting of a giant hannukiah (candelabra), with traditional Chanukah food, holiday music and Israeli Folk dancing in the JCC Social Hall, led by JCC dance instructor Cantor Uri Aqua. All are welcome to attend, free of charge.

Avid folk dancers enjoy Israeli-style dancing with Cantor Aqua at the JCC every Tuesday. Beginners are encouraged to arrive Tuesdays at 7:45 p.m. for basic instruction, followed by circle and partner folk dancing for all from8:00 to 10:00 pm“Folk dancing is a fun form of exercise that helps us strengthen our connection with Israel through music and movement,” says Aqua. “This is also a great forum for meeting new friends with similar interests!”  No prior experience is necessary for this ongoing, learn-as-you-go class. Fee for the
Tuesday night class is $11, or $57 for a booklet of six class coupons
