Sheldrake Environmental Center. Children go on nature hunts to explore and make discoveries. They’ll find winter birds, insects, egg cases (even butterflies) and, look for rabbits, deer, mice, chipmunks and squirrels. If there’s snow, they’ll look for tracks and try to think about what animals might have made them. There’s also time indoors at the nature center for story time, eco-crafts and more. This program is for kids ages 3 to 8 and runs Monday through Friday, 12/24 to 12/28 (no class on 12/25).

Hudson River Museum. School’s Out, Stars Are In Science Project is offered this December for inquisitive kids and their parents. Children gather at the Hudson River Museum to explore the Lower Hudson Valley in the Hudson Riverama gallery. They discover how this area was formed, how it changes in winter, and how to protect it. Program held from 1 – 4 pm on Dec. 26 through 28, 2012. On Dec. 26th children will be involved in a make a “glacier”project and on Dec. 27th it’s time to make “ice” sculptures.Then, on Dec. 28th they’ll learn about pollution on the river and make a “watershed.” The cost of the program is free with Museum Admission, adults $5 and $3 for children ages 5 to 16.
