Autism: Alex is a 12-year-old boy with autism and an intellectual disability. He often holds his hands in front of his eyes, a few inches from his face, with his fingers splayed and rapidly moving back and forth. Sometimes he makes a humming noise while he spins round and round. Alex speaks about 50 words and is usually able to make his needs known to his parents and teacher.
