Family Art Project: Freedom Quilters of Gee’s Bend
In 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited the Gee’s Bend Community in Alabama, leading to the creation of the Freedom Quilting Bee, where talented women crafted vibrant quilts from fabric scraps, thus supporting their community’s pursuit of freedom. To honor Dr. King’s birthday, families are encouraged to participate in a fabric collage project that celebrates both his legacy and the artistry of the Gee’s Bend quilters.
