Kids obsessed with airplanes? While it’s always fun to look up and watch airplanes soaring in the sky, there are a few nearby air shows where you can make a whole experience out of it. At these air shows, you and your kids can learn more about historic airplanes, watch planes soar, see some wild pyrotechnics, and even take mini airplane rides. Bethpage Air Show

Take a road trip to Long Island to check out the Bethpage Air Show. Held at Jones Beach in May, this air show typically features incredible performers and United States Navy Blue Angels. Past performances included F-22 Raptor, Golden Knights, American Airpower Museum Warbirds, and much more. Jones Beach, 2400 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh, NY 11793.

NY International Air Show

Taking place from August 27th-28th, the NY International Air Show is the ultimate air show in Orange County. Held at the Orange County Airport, you and your kids can see tons of planes soaring in the air. This includes the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, West Point Parachute Team, Air Force Heritage Flight, Red Bull Air Force, and more. There is also food and beverage tents. Tickets include VIP options, general admission, lawn boxes, and preferred seating. Orange County Airport, 500 Dunn Road, Montgomery, NY 12549.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodome

This fun “living history” air show takes place every Saturday and Sunday until October 16th. This includes a Saturday show called that “History of Flight” that highlights the time before World War 1 and a look at the golden age of flying in the 1920s and 1030s. The Sunday show is a spectacular World War 1-themed show with heroes, heroines, villains, cool pyrotechnics, and a World War I tank.

This includes a look at historic planes, such as the 1909 Bleriot, Fokker DR-I Triplane, and the Spirit of St. Louis. The site also includes access to a museum, food, and the chance to see Biplane rides before and after the airshows. Families can also see over 80 antique airplanes and 35 historic cars.
