Greyston Foundation, a social enterprise established in 1982, has been making brownies, and other fine baked items, in their Yonkers-based bakery in order to do good in the world. Yes, the brownies are good, but their mission is even better.
Did you know the Greyston Bakery provides jobs and training to the most disenfranchised members of our communities? Everyone who applies at Greyston is given a chance to turn their life around – no questions asked. In 2012, 181 individuals were given full-time employment at the bakery. And then they were encouraged to enhance their skills and move on to achieve more through training programs and job search assistance provided by the organization.
