WJCS Offers Hope to Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) has been selected, along with Mental Health Association of Westchester, to deliver Project Hope services in Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Peekskill, and southern Westchester. Funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and facilitated with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Project Hope is a designed to provide crisis counseling assistance and training for people in New York hit hardest by Sandy. With Project Hope funding, WJCS staff members are available to assist individuals, families, community groups, businesses and service organizations with crisis counseling at no charge. 

 

 “Our goal is to help our community recover from the emotional and physical impact of Hurricane Sandy and to give assistance to the Sandy survivors on coping skills, and the use of community and FEMA resources,” explains Cristina Konior, LMHC, WJCS Project Hope Coordinator, who is leading a team of crisis counselors who have been specially trained.
